Let me give you an example. Many times a potential client will come to me and ask me to SEO their website. They think they want to get #1 ranking on Google for certain keywords.
Now most SEO specialists would gladly take their money, nod their heads, smile, and "promise" them the #1 ranking - nevermind whether that's actually realistic and desirable. And of course, what often happens is the client gets burned and jaded...
What I like to do is first do some analysis and determine:
- If those keywords are even profitable keywords
- If that's realistic given the budget and time allotted
- The rest of the marketing strategy (after all, what's the point of getting millions of visitors to your website if it can't convert these visitors into customers?)
